Ober Gatlinburg to Stay Open for Summer Season

Have you ever wondered what the Ober Gatlinburg Ski Resort does in the summertime? Although Ober is known as a prime skiing location during the winter months, the resort is also a fun summer destination for families who want to enjoy spectacular mountain views, family-friendly entertainment and year-round ice skating.

The resort will be closed Monday, April 28 through Thursday, May 8 for annual maintenance. Beginning on May 9, expect to enjoy a thrilling variety of summer attractions in Gatlinburg at the top of Ober.

Tram and Scenic Chairlift

All year long, the Aerial Tramway will take guests up a two mile ride that includes the most spectacular views in the Smokies. If you’d like to breathe in the fresh air while riding to the resort, the Scenic Chairlift provides unobstructed views of the mountains, where it seems that you can reach out and touch the mountain peaks. This ride also gives you souvenir photo opportunities, so the family can be pictured together.

Wildlife Encounter

Ober Gatlinburg’s Wildlife Encounter is a kid-friendly animal attraction in Ober that allows the family to safely view animals that are native to the Smoky Mountains. The Birds of Prey exhibit features owls, eagles and falcons. To see the elusive nighttime animals, the Nocturnal House is home to raccoons, flying squirrels, reptiles and turtles.

And what kind of visit to the Smoky Mountains is it without a black bear sighting? Ober is home to American Black Bears, where your entire family can enjoy them without a worry about safety because they are well taken care of in a large enclosure.

Alpine Slide

Ober’s huge indoor arena is open year-round for those who want to figure-8 on the ice. There are more than 400 pairs of rental skates available, so there’s sure to be a pair just for you!
