Planning to treat your family to an amazing cold-weather experience? Ski Trips are fun, activity-filled vacations that will have everyone loving winter again. Consider planning a winter vacation to the Smokies, and see just how fun family time can be again while winding and sliding down the slopes.

1. Accomodations

When traveling with kids, it’s important where you choose to stay. Gatlinburg condos offer extra room and a homey atmosphere, so that everyone can spread out and relax after a long day of activity. To be close to the slopes and other adventures, Highlands Condos offers magnificent views in a convenient location. Each of our Gatlinburg condos features a private balcony overlooking the Smoky Mountains and a fully-furnished interior.

Just minutes from downtown and Ober Gatlinburg, Highlands’ guests can come and go without long drives. We’re located at 855 Campbell Lead near Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies and the Gatlinburg Space Needle, so nothing in downtown is very far.

After being out in the cold, nothing could be better than bundling up in front of a fire and enjoying a cup of hot chocolate. In the condos, we offer a full kitchen, cable tv, wifi, and private entrance and balcony. Our guests also enjoy additional amenities including access to a fitness center, indoor swimming pools and hot tubs and soothing saunas.

2. Clothing

Layering is best when skiing and snowboarding. Layering prevents heat loss and keeps you dry. For the base layer, avoid cotton it holds water and choose a quick-drying fabric. Fleece or wool will keep water out on the second layer. A ski jacket should be the last layer.

For families who don’t have a ski jackets, Ober Gatlinburg offers ski jacket and pants rentals for $12.00 per person, per day. Choosing the right clothing will make the trip a true success, so everyone can stay out longer and and have more fun.

3. Equipment

Families who don’t have skis or a snowboard can rent them at Ober Gatlinburg. Equipment Rentals are $25.00 per day and $20.00 per night for skis, boots and poles. Snowboard rentals are $30.00 per day and $25.00 per night. All equipment rentals are priced per person.

4. Lessons

For first-timers, one hour ski classes are only $19.00 per person. A lesson is required for first-timers to prevent injury and make sure you and everyone else is safe. The pros will teach you how to glide, slow down, and stop, so you and your family can safely and easily navigate the slopes. There are also snowboarding and children’s ski lessons available.
